Meet me downtown
Craig and Isabella are two engaged lovebirds who share a deep love not only for each other but for the city of Boston. Soon after they booked me for their upcoming wedding, they started discussing the engagement session. The couple knew that they would love to have their session showcase the city that they call home. As a Boston Wedding Photographer this is one of my favorite parts of the job. I love heading out into a real world location, somewhere that holds meaning and unique significance for the couple, and turning it into my own photo studio. Furthermore because each couple is different, the locations are different, and therefore the experience is always refreshing, new, and fascinating. The Downtown Crossing Neighborhood of Boston, with it's rich history, fascinating Architecture, and mainly pedestrian landscape served as an excellent backdrop for their engagement session.

a stroll down summer street
We started Craig and Isabella's engagement portrait session on Summer Street near Macy's which is right in the heart of Downtown crossing. This area is ideal for engagement photography because of it's diverse but friendly atmosphere. This part of the neighborhood is only open to pedestrian traffic, no cars are allows to drive through it. As a result the area is often times full of street vendors, musicians, artists, and other individuals that create an interesting hum to city life. Furthermore the street is lined here with buildings that have breathtaking architectural presence that creates a blend of timeless charm and modern energy. All of this perfectly complimented the couple's young urban professional vibe.

Meet me on the stairs
From the Summer Street spot, we walked over a few blocks north to the Franklin Steps. These are an interesting public architectural feature that resembles outdoor stadium seating. It is a massive concrete structure often used to provide seating for an audience to view various performances held in front of it. However, for the inspired wedding photographer, it also served as a stunning frame for engagement portraits. I placed Craig and Isabella atop the stairs. From my point of view, I was able to capture a very elegant and impactful portrait of the couple with the Boston skyline rising up behind them. The stairs are surrounded on all sides by modern-styled glass guard rails. These added some creative and abstract reflections that provided a more contemporary flair to the images. This was an interesting contrast to the historic vintage charm of the previous location. This balance of modern and historical elements highlighted both the city's feel and the couple's romance.

let's dance
As I have said, Craig and Isabella's love for Boston inspired a great deal of their engagement session, another aspect of this was their love of dancing. As we explored more and more of downtown Crossing, I was reminded that Boston is a city that has been built, torn, built again. As a result there are countless architectural treasures that are hidden and its a big surprise when you turn a corner and walk down a seemingly quiet street and you see an amazing orient inspired façade. I was inspired to use these hidden gems a backdrops for dramatic images of the couple dancing. These images brought a feeling of surprise, emotion, and intimacy to the session, just like these hidden architectural treasures.

A walk in the park
We concluded Craig and Isabella’s engagement session at a small park located in the north border of Downtown Crossing. The park had water fountain as its centerpiece, surrounded by tall grass, trees, with a historic building providing a picturesque backdrop. The setting offered a softer, more tranquil contrast to the energy of the city streets. We spent about ten minutes enjoying the space, capturing a mix of formal portraits and playful moments, including a few impromptu dances. The session ended perfectly with a romantic kiss by the fountain.
